Project Scale: Bulk fleet replacement for high-occupancy nursing care facilities
The client, a leading senior living and clinical rehabilitation provider in Saudi Arabia, was seeking a high-durability fleet of manual wheelchairs. Operating premium nursing homes in the hot and dusty Central Region (Riyadh), they faced recurring operational problems with standard medical mobility equipment:
Thermal Degradation: Standard PVC or cheap plastic tires degraded, softened, and cracked rapidly when exposed to intense Middle Eastern seasonal heat (often reaching 45°C to 50°C), resulting in high replacement costs.
Traction & Dust Hazards: Fine desert sand and dust settling on outdoor concrete walkways and interior smooth tiles made standard wheels slippery, causing the wheelchairs to skid and compromising safety.
High-Strain Patient Handling: Standard fixed-armrest wheelchairs made lateral patient transfers (e.g., from bed to wheelchair) highly labor-intensive, increasing the risk of caregiver back strain and resident discomfort.
To solve these challenges, Quzhi Medical’s R&D department engineered a customized manual transit wheelchair (CME-REXLC Custom Edition) designed to withstand harsh Middle Eastern environments while optimizing patient transfer workflows:
We replaced standard fixed structures with customized right-angle flip-up armrests. By depressing a quick-release lever, the armrests swing backward completely, sitting parallel to the backrest. This opens an unobstructed lateral channel, allowing safe, swift lateral transfers (bed-to-wheelchair or wheelchair-to-toilet) without requiring caregivers to lift the patient. This significantly reduces physical strain on nursing staff and improves patient safety.
We replaced standard PVC wheels with a premium solid Polyurethane (PU) tire compound. PU offers exceptional thermal stability, maintaining its structural integrity and elasticity in extreme ambient temperatures up to 80°C. Engineered with a wider tread and high-friction pattern, these tires offer superb slip resistance on sandy outdoor walkways and polished indoor tiles. They are 100% flat-free, puncture-proof, and require zero inflation maintenance.
Built with a thickened, powder-coated carbon steel frame, the wheelchair easily supports a safe working load of up to 115 kg. The scratch-resistant, dual-layer powder coating provides excellent corrosion and rust resistance in humid or dusty atmospheres.
Adhering strictly to ISO 13485 medical device manufacturing protocols, every single custom wheelchair in this batch underwent rigorous quality inspections:
Dynamic Fatigue Test: Simulated rolling road tests under a 115 kg load.
Hinge Durability Test: Repeated flip-up and lock cycles for the custom armrests.
Brake Performance Check: Both the patient parking brakes and caregiver attendant brakes were tested on standard sloped ramps to guarantee stopping safety.
To protect the customized fleet during international ocean freight and port handling, the wheelchairs were packed in double-wall corrugated export-grade cartons. The outer packaging features high-contrast wheelchair graphics and precise model markings (CME-REXLC) for rapid customs inspection, ensuring 100% damage-free delivery to Riyadh.
The customized fleet arrived in Riyadh on schedule and was immediately deployed across the client’s care facilities. The procurement team expressed immense satisfaction with our execution:
"Quzhi Medical’s customized wheelchairs have fundamentally optimized our daily resident transfer routines. The right-angle flip-up armrests have eliminated transfer-related safety incidents by 40%, and the PU wheels are exceptionally stable and quiet under our harsh desert heat. The build quality has far exceeded our expectations, and we are already preparing our next bulk purchasing cycle with Quzhi Medical." — Director of Healthcare Procurement, Riyadh Elder Living Network
